Wild Weeds and Wild Flowers

Green grass poking out
of ground not long ago
covered by white snow.
Directly above we see
shriveled weeds
that couldn't survive.
Still we know that they
in their own way
once had beauty to share.

Nearly there...

A steep
grade leading
to who
knows where?

On one side a hill,
the other
ravine.

Death covers the path
once red, orange, green leaves
now brown, but still moist.
How many have gone before me?

Life out of sight,
and a trail,
somewhere,
in between.

Red Faces, Gold Glory

Red with white stripes
round and round they go;
in the center green.

Benches for the fans
up in the air,
but even further up
the stadium lights are raised.

A track of red,
on the track to gold.

Dumbells

Heavy in my hand,
I lift you once again.
My muscle screams
"Why do you do this?!"
I dropped you once
on my toe. Even the dickens
couldn't explain how bad it hurt.
You pull my arm back down;
cold metal with a "10" stamp.

Knockout

Hit so hard,
6,7,8 - a voice calling out.
I see red,
on my hands and his.
Count starts again,
1, 2, 3, - I can't get up.
Yet I rise,
only to be hit again.
Made of lead,
8, 9, 10 - counted out.
Hand held high,
on him, the victor.

Life Living (Turquoise ring)

Circles that never end,
Navajo Indian colors.
Stones encased in metal,
people trapped in history.
Vendors yelling buy,
a myriad of styles.
A way to live life,
a way to tell the story of life.

Pressure Neck (Bottle)

Smooth,
reflecting waters
of blue, green, brown.
Delicate,
clinking glass
champagne, wine, whiskey.
Shapes,
changing sizes
pear, round, square.

Death of a Smart Person

Open mouth, insert foot,
hit the ground running.
But running is hard,
especially if you can't see.

Love is blind, with the
blind leaving the blind.
Kill two birds with one stone,
the stones up in the air.

Now the stones down and
you're digging a hole.
I'm head over heels,
in love and in a hole.

Epigrams

Shadows can only be good company for so long.

The heart is always changing.

A closed mind is an open book.

Light bulbs don't come on in every house.

Candy on the lips is candy on the hips.

A man with an accent is like frosting on the cake -
the cake all tastes the same.

Time is sometimes the only thing that keeps moving.

"Players" don't win the championship.

Life and death have two things in common:
God and you.
